World Vision at the N4G Summit

The Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit took place December 7 to 8, 2021 in Tokyo, hosted by the Government of Japan. This event occurred midway through the United Nations Decade on Nutrition, with four years left to achieve the World Health Assembly targets on maternal, infant and young child nutrition and nine years to reach the Sustainable Development Goals. The N4G Summit convened a cross-section of stakeholders to announce final financial and policy commitments and chart the path toward 2030 with concrete recommendations to the global community.

Over 300 nutrition commitments were made by 156 stakeholders from 66 countries, including $27 billion in new financial investment. The N4G commitment process has been built on a platform of accountability wherein every commitment will be independently monitored on an annual basis, so the world will have a clear view on progress starting in 2022.

World Vision was one of 44 civil society organisations making a commitment, and continues to prioritize nutrition with a bold commitment of US$500 million to tackle malnutrition over the next 5 years, from 2020 to 2025, plus much more. Learn more

N4G Year of Action (December 2020 to December 2021)

The N4G Year of Action, designed to accelerate progress on malnutrition, was launched at a virtual event held on December 14, 2020, hosted by the Government of Canada and Bangladesh. Key events throughout the year leading up to the N4G Summit  focused on mobilizing new policy and financial commitments to help reverse the the impacts of COVID-19 and position nutrition as an essential development priority. This Devex article summarizes some of the commitments made at the virtual launch, including World Vision's.

Andrew Morley, President and CEO of World Vision, announced World Vision's N4G commitment at the launch event and spoke of the importance of eliminating malnutrition, especially for women and girls :

I am personally committed to ending the needless deaths of millions of children from malnutrition . . . We will increase our investment and work tirelessly with our partners until stories of children dying of malnutrition are a thing of the past.

World Vision led on development of an article analysing Gender and Nutrition at the UN Food Systems Summit and Nutrition for Growth Summit, together with CARE Canada and Save the Children Canada. Results of the analysis were published in the first volume of the UN Nutrition Journal: Transforming Nutrition (see pages 164 to 167, 2022).

World Vision participated in the civil society consultations co-facilitated by UNICEF and WFP that led to development of the Global Action Plan on Child Wasting (Nov 2021).

World Vision participated in several of the six independent working groups that contributed to the Wasting Reset synthesis report. This report guided development of the Wasting Reset Call to Action (Dec 2021), of which World Vision is a signatory.

As part of the Generation Nutrition Alliance, World Vision contributed to the N4G Position Paper: European Union Nutrition Investment: No Time to Waste (Sept 2021)

World Vision also made commitments at the UN Food Systems Summit (FSS), held on September 23, 2021, and again highlighted our commitment to nutrition. Here's a 2022 Progress Report on those commitments. Check out World Vision's involvement at the FSS through side events held with partners, including recordings.
