Prof. Atalay is one of Ethiopia’s most respected psychiatrists and mental health leaders, with a career dedicated to improving the well-being of vulnerable people and strengthening Ethiopia’s mental health systems. Over several decades, he has played a pioneering role in expanding access to psychiatric services, training mental health professionals and building local capacity in healthcare institutions.
His work has contributed directly to healthier families and communities, recognising that child wellbeing is closely connected to parental health, emotional resilience and community support systems.
