From Aid to Enterprise: The Ushindi Group’s Blueprint for Self-Reliance
Uwimana Antoinette, a 33-year-old mother of five, fled conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2018 and resettled in Uganda’s Kyaka II settlement. Like many refugees, she initially relied on food aid and cash transfers but struggled to meet her family’s needs. Seeking alternatives, she joined the Ushindi Savings Group, a refugee-led initiative formed in 2019 to promote self-reliance through savings and small loans.

World Vision Ghana and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), in partnership with World Agroforestry (ICRAF) and with funding from the European Union (EU), have officially launched the Regreening Africa Phase II (RA II) Project in Kukpalgu in the Mion District, Northern Region. This marks a significant step in scaling up efforts to restore degraded landscapes, strengthen climate resilience, and improve livelihoods for smallholder farmers in the Bawku West, Garu, Tempane and Binduri districts in the Upper East Region; and Yendi and Mion districts in the Northern Region of Ghana.

Bridging the Literacy Gap: Unlock Literacy Improves Jemimah's Teaching Methods
In many rural schools across Zambia, a significant challenge persists: teachers often struggle to teach literacy in lower grades effectively. Despite the critical importance of developing strong reading and writing skills early on, many classrooms are marked by limited resources, inadequate training, and a focus on rote learning rather than holistic literacy development. As a result, many children enter upper primary school with weak foundational skills, hampering their overall academic progress and confidence.
