Lesotho Journalists Trained to Champion the Fight Against Child Labour and Forced Labour
Maseru, Lesotho – As part of ongoing efforts to eliminate child labour, forced labour, and human trafficking, World Vision Lesotho, through the European Union-funded Accelerating Action for Eliminating Child Labour and Forced Labour (AECFL) project, is hosting a two-day training for journalists, aimed at empowering the media as advocates for child protection.
The training brings together 16 journalists from across Lesotho and features expert presentations from the Ministry of Labour, trained Community Child Protection Teams, and World Vision Advocacy and Communications staff.
The goal is to equip journalists with the knowledge and tools to report ethically and effectively on child labour issues, while also raising public awareness on the legal frameworks that protect children from exploitation. This training contributes to the project’s national goal of training 150 journalists by the end of the project.
To date, the AECFL project has trained 41 journalists; this training brings the total to 57 strengthening the media’s collective capacity to inform, influence, and inspire action.
“When the media stands with children, they become protectors, not just reporters.” — Mathabang Kose, AECFL Project Coordinator
This training marks a critical step in building a national movement of media professionals who are committed to using their platforms to champion children’s rights, challenge harmful norms, and amplify the urgency to end child labour and forced labour in Lesotho. Through collaboration and shared responsibility, the media joins a growing network of change agents working to protect the most vulnerable and secure a better future for all children.
If you see something, say something.
