World Vision Lesotho, Government, U.S. Embassy and Health Partners Come Together to Strengthen Faith and Community Health Services in Lesotho

Maseru, Lesotho | 8 September 2026 — The Government of Lesotho, the U.S. Embassy, World Vision Lesotho and health partners will come together on 8 September 2026 for the Faith and Community Initiative (FCI) Co-Creation Workshop, creating a platform for stakeholders to jointly explore how faith and community structures can contribute to stronger, more integrated and sustainable primary health care services in Lesotho.
The workshop, to be held at Avani Lesotho Hotel, will bring together senior representatives from the Ministry of Health, U.S. Embassy, World Vision Lesotho, faith-based organisations, non-governmental organisations and other development and health partners.
The gathering will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to collectively develop a country-specific roadmap for the Faith and Community Initiative, ensuring that implementation is aligned with Lesotho’s national health priorities, existing systems and local context.
FCI is a U.S. government-funded initiative under the America First Global Health Strategy (AFGHS), seeking to strengthen local faith-based and community health providers to deliver integrated health services. Led globally by World Vision in partnership with faith and community health organisations, FCI is being implemented across 16 GHSD priority countries.
In Lesotho, the initiative seeks to strengthen primary health care through greater collaboration between community health workers, faith actors and facility-based health providers, supporting the delivery of integrated HIV, tuberculosis, sexual and reproductive health, maternal, child and adolescent health, and nutrition services. The initiative will also seek to strengthen the alignment of health data and supply chain systems with district and national government structures, while supporting the progressive transition of programme ownership to national and sub-national levels.
The Co-Creation Workshop builds on the importance of strong government-to-government cooperation between Lesotho and the United States in advancing shared health priorities, while bringing together faith, community, civil society and development partners to complement government efforts and strengthen the reach and sustainability of health services.
“This co-creation process is an opportunity to work more intentionally together around Lesotho’s health priorities. By bringing government, the U.S. Government, faith and community actors and health partners together, we can identify practical ways to strengthen the link between communities and the health system, while building local ownership and sustainability,” said the World Vision Lesotho National Director.
The workshop will provide a space for dialogue, collaboration and collective problem-solving, with stakeholders working towards practical strategies that strengthen the contribution of faith and community actors to primary health care.
A Call for Collective Action
World Vision Lesotho calls on government institutions, faith leaders, community organisations, health partners, development partners and other stakeholders to actively engage in the co-creation process and contribute their expertise, experience, networks and resources.
Strengthening health outcomes requires more than the efforts of one institution. It requires strong government leadership, effective partnerships and meaningful engagement with communities and the faith sector. Through this collaborative approach, stakeholders can help shape a more integrated, locally owned and sustainable health system—one that brings essential services closer to children, families and communities and leaves no one behind.
Together, we can strengthen faith and community health partnerships and contribute to a healthier Lesotho.
