ADDRESSING THE POLY-CRISIS: Integrated Package of Essential Accelerating Services for Enhancing Child Well-being in Mozambique
Thursday, August 7, 2025

Mozambique’s children are facing critical challenges due to a combination of economic hardship, climate-related disasters, conflict, and the aftershocks of the COVID-19 pandemic. This policy brief outlines an integrated strategy to address these challenges through two key accelerators: the Subsídio para Crianças (Child Grant) and the Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar (National School-Feeding Programme – PRONAE). These interventions, if implemented alongside coordinated service delivery, workforce training, and strategic policy alignment, could significantly improve child well-being outcomes across multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The brief draws from international research and national evaluations, recommending a phased, resource-conscious rollout that empowers district-level actors, enhances referral mechanisms, and leverages Mozambique’s National Action Plan for Children. The approach prioritises cost-efficiency and long-term impact by linking nutrition, health, education, and child protection services through multi-sectoral collaboration.
