Gilmene’s unshakable determination
Gilmene is a young lady living in Petit-Trou de Nippes, (South of Haiti). Ever since she became a mother at the age of 16, she has never had an easy life. To make a living, she has to struggle and by the sweat of her brow takes care of her family. A very bitter episode was added to her reality following the August 14, earthquake which, in a few seconds, turned everything upside down.
Gilmene still bears the scars of the tragedy that has caused the sudden death of her youngest daughter, the lovely Chama whom she loved so much. However, Gilmene chose not to give up. Less than two (2) months after the disaster, she already showed an incomparable resilience by mobilizing all her strength to continue to move forward. World Vision has given its full support to this exceptional courage seen in Gilmene as it is the case for thousands of other disaster-stricken families left completely vulnerable in the southern region of Haiti.
