Armenian Teens Find a Solution to Climate Change
IMPACT Clubs in Armenia bring together 12- to 18-year-old adolescents to build healthy relationships, become active citizens in their communities, and learn skills to participate in civic and economic life. This contribution has been compiled in collaboration with members of the Armenia rECOvery IMPACT Club project.
In 2017, our IMPACT Club started distributing used clothing to families in need. We started by providing clothing to 12 families and by 2020 we were providing clothing to 200 families. In 2019, we learned about the effects of waste on climate change and developed an interest in fashion and textile waste in Armenia. After our humanitarian program, we had a big amount of clothes which were not used.

We have tried a few business ideas, including making eco-bags and repurposing clothing into theater costumes, and after learning from these ideas, in 2021, the idea of reusing and remaking clothes began. This program has given new life to old clothes. We started marketing our remade fashion items and enlisted local tailors to help us realise our vision.

We are really enthusiastic about this program and we think it will become something valuable in the future. Our biggest priority has always been sustainability and the aim is to improve the environmental health and quality of life in our country.
We are working to reduce waste in the world – how about you?
Members of the rECOvery IMPACT Club project have participated in World Vision International’s global adolescent advisory group for COP27, meeting with and sharing their vision with other teenagers from around the world and contributing to World Vision’s adolescent representative presentations during COP27 conference and side events.
