As part of supporting the country’s efforts towards improved health for children, and in line with the organisation's ENOUGH Campaign, World Vision Eswatini (WVE) has handed over 48,000 tablets of Vitamin A and 24,000 Albendazole in 400mg to the Ministry of Health.

Making the presentation at the Ministry’s offices, WVE National Director Amos Zaindi said this donation was based on the needs shared by the Eswatini National Nutrition Council as part of ongoing collaboration between the two parties.

The health commodities were donated to WVE by World Vision U.S.A., through the organisation’s Gifts-In-Kind (GIKs) Programme.

Vitamin A is essential for vision, immune function, and proper growth and development of children, while Albendazole is for deworming.

Receiving the commodities, the Minister for Health, Hon. Mduduzi Matsebula, thanked WVE for the donation, adding supplementation was crucial for children under five, as it significantly reduced childhood morbidity and mortality. He said these supplements were, therefore, a fundamental shield against common infections.

“Worm infections compromise the gut lining and steal essential nutrients, contributing significantly to malnutrition and anaemia. By administering Albendazole, we ensure that the food our children eat nourishes them, not parasites,” the Minister stated, speaking through the Principal Secretary Khanya Mabuza.

Also present at the event was the Eswatini National Nutrition Council's Programme Lead, Siniketiwe Zwane, who appreciated World Vision’s support to the Council.

ND Zaindi stated that the support provided was in line with World Vision’s ENOUGH Campaign to End Child Hunger and Malnutrition. In furtherance of this agenda, he also appealed to the Minister, through the Principal Secretary, to assist in ensuring that the National Nutrition Policy, which has remained a draft since 2015, is finalised for implementation. He said this would help guide the country’s efforts towards ensuring a healthier nation, particularly children.
