Floods in Koutiala: World Vision Mali provides support to affected populations

Koutiala region of Mali was hit by exceptionally intense torrential rains, causing the Bani River to flood and inundate several surrounding villages. Within hours, homes, granaries, latrines, corn and cotton crops, and livestock were swept away, leaving communities in a critical situation.
At the start of the 2025 rainy season, World Vision Mali, in collaboration with government technical services and the Koutiala Regional Directorate of Social Development, deployed humanitarian assistance in late June to help more than a thousand households affected by this disaster.

Thus, 1,072 vulnerable households, spread across the municipalities of Konseguela, Diédougou, Konina, Zébala, Nafanga, and Logouana, received direct assistance, including food baskets worth 48,250 CFA francs per family. These baskets included: a 50-kg bag of rice, 10 kg of cowpeas, 4 liters of oil, 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of iodized salt, and two bars of soap.
This support came at a good time; we had nothing left from the donations we received during the very first assistance efforts. This aid will allow me to feed my children a little and regain some dignity before the next harvest
says Mariam, a resident of Touloumina.

The village chief of Filima added:
Thanks to World Vision and its partners, this aid gives hope to many families who were unable to cultivate or harvest crops last year due to the floods.
Beyond immediate assistance, the intervention also aimed to help strengthen community resilience through awareness-raising activities on nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation, in order to prevent the spread of disease on the eve of the 2025 rainy season.

Thought this targeted assistance, World Vision Mali reaffirms its commitment to the most vulnerable populations and its support to the Malian government in addressing the effects of climate change and natural disasters.
