“Mom, I don't want to collect bottles. I just want to go to school. Other children are attending school, so why can't I attend?" Hnin asked her mother. Hnin, a 15-year-old girl, lives with her mother and sister in Hlaingtharyar Township. She has three siblings, including an elder brother and a younger sister. Her father passed away when she was young, leaving Hnin and her mother to support the family. Hnin started facing this responsibility when she was in Grade 2. Unfortunately, her mother's health worsened, forcing Hnin to drop out of school.

Despite having the responsibility to support her family, Hnin aspires to pursue her education. One day, while collecting bottles near a garbage area, she encountered staff from World Vision Myanmar. The staff explained the Non-Formal Education Programme to Hnin, expressing that she was always welcome to participate in its activities. Non-Formal Education Programme is designed for children who are dropping out of school. Excited about the opportunity, Hnin wished to participate in the learning activities. However, her mother, fearing that involvement in the project might reduce the family income, therefore she did not allow Hnin to join.

But nothing can stop Hnin’s desire to learn, she participates in Non-Formal Education activities and she continues to support her family. Through her participation in World Vision Myanmar's Non-Formal Education programme, she has acquired knowledge in areas such as life skills, child protection, and child participation. Hnin particularly enjoys the activity of sharing general knowledge. Her participation brings her great joy, and she is grateful for the opportunity to participate in these activities.

Hnin shared, "Before taking part in these activities, I didn't listen to my mother, and I did what I wanted. At times, I didn't pay all the earnings from collecting bottles to my mother. However, now, I have become more respectful, thanks to the guidance of the World Vision Myanmar staff. In one of the life skills sessions, I had to express my life goal, and I mentioned my desire to work in a factory to support my family. Presently, I am employed in a factory with a steady income, and our livelihood has significantly improved compared to before. The life goal I shared during the session has become the driving force behind my current achievements. Now, Hnin has a stable job, stands independently, and has become a wise daughter capable of supporting her family.
