For a long time, Sofia and her family, who live in the Mutarara district of Tete province, lived without access to a safe latrine. They were forced to resort to the forest and wastelands to satisfy their physiological needs, a practice that risked their health, that of their younger siblings and that of the family as a whole.
Today, Sofia's family is part of a change that begins in the backyard and echoes throughout the community, following the construction of improved and sustainable latrines, led by women entrepreneurs.
Together with Sofia, another 600 people will benefit from improved sanitation and hygiene conditions by September this year, as part of an initiative facilitated by World Vision Mozambique with the support of World Vision Taiwan.
In 2024, World Vision Mozambique facilitated the construction of more than 21,000 improved latrines that benefited more than 66,000 people in terms of water and sanitation.
