Child and Youth Advocates Launch ‘Gimme5’ Movement in Mozambique

Improved public service delivery, increased investment, and enforced accountability are at the heart of the agenda being championed by a newly formed movement of young activists in Mozambique. Aptly named ‘Gimme5’, the platform supports World Vision’s ‘5toThrive’ initiative, which advocates for governments to integrate accelerated services that enhance outcomes for children while improving cost efficiency in resource-constrained settings.
The ‘Gimme5’ movement aims to constructively shift the current trajectory, addressing the significant challenges faced by children in Mozambique, challenges that have been exacerbated by economic decline, the COVID-19 pandemic, armed conflict, and the climate crisis. The movement will actively engage with the government and donors to explore opportunities for tackling these issues through integrated, accelerated services.

Research indicates that combining efforts across sectors such as education, health, nutrition, child protection, and social protection can significantly improve the effectiveness of existing programs. This integrated approach also contributes to achieving multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) simultaneously.
