From Pulpit to Prosperity, Rev. Alex’s Journey of Transformation
Rev. Alex, a pastor with the Anglican Church and team leader at African Evangelist Enterprise, once believed his calling was limited to preaching the gospel. Coming from a strong theological background, entrepreneurship seemed far removed from his pastoral duties.
"Our work is to preach only the gospel,” he recalls thinking.
In 2023, everything changed when he attended the Empowered Worldview training organised by World Vision. The training challenged his perception, introducing the concept of transforming the mind, heart, and pocket. Rev. Alex realised that while resources were available, the real limitation was mindset.
He learned that true empowerment is not about choosing between God and money but about wisely using the resources God provides to live abundantly, as He intends for His children.
This revelation sparked a personal transformation. Rev. Alex began sharing the message with his wife and congregation. Inspired, his wife started a small business with their savings, which continues to thrive today. Rev. Alex himself ventured into agriculture, harvesting 19 bags of groundnuts (100 kg each) last year and expecting an even bigger yield this year.
His message to South Sudanese youth is clear: “The youth, especially the unemployed, are the most affected in our community. We must shift from being job seekers to job creators, recognising that we can create opportunities rather than waiting for them.”
Rev. Alex’s work has extended far beyond his home church. Together with his team, he has equipped 40 pastors from various congregations through a two-day training workshop. The results have been transformative; many church members have started businesses, agriculture, and even fishing in areas like Terekeka. Rather than depending on offertories from their congregations, these pastors are now self-reliant, contributing back to their communities by being exemplary and creating opportunities for others.
"What we’ve witnessed is a change from being dependent to having dignity; pastors and church leaders are no longer just preachers but active builders of sustainable and prosperous communities."
This testimony is powerful proof of how a shift in mindset can lead to sustainable change. From preaching alone to practising empowerment, he exemplifies how faith and entrepreneurship can coexist to transform lives.
