The Hollowed Earth: How the Prolonged Conflict in Sudan is Affecting Children and Their Families examines how three years of conflict have devastated Sudan’s agricultural systems, accelerating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

Combining satellite imagery analysis with humanitarian data and field testimonies, the report reveals that at least 38,918 km² of arable land has been degraded or lost since 2023, undermining food production and deepening hunger. As conflict, displacement, and climate pressures converge, millions of children face acute malnutrition, disease, disrupted education, and heightened protection risks.

The report highlights the urgent need to restore agricultural systems, scale up humanitarian assistance, and invest in long-term resilience to prevent a generation of Sudanese children from losing their future.
