Klodi works day and night helping his father, Shpetim, collect scrap metals and plastics which are then sold to provide food for the family. He has no time for school. His family needs his help. He does the same routine every day, leaving early in the morning to work and coming back late at night. All they earn for a week’s worth of work is $5 USD. A national study by INSTAT (Albanian Institute of Statistics) and ILO (International Labour Organization revealed that 7.7 per cent of Albanian children between the ages of 5 and 17 work, often beyond their capabilities. The study estimates that about 54,000 children in Albania work.
