Ana, Ensar’s sister, says it's almost unbelievable that Ensar started answering when they call his name.

Ensar is 12 years old. He could neither speak nor hear. The doctor confirmed that if Ensar had been treated properly up to the age of 6, he would have been able to recover a good part of his hearing. Unfortunately Ensar's family did not have the necessary means to provide this medical assistance for their son, so now he only retains five per cent of his hearing.

World Vision Albania and Kosovo, together with the doctor, helped the family purchase a hearing aid for Ensar, that at least helps him hear some noises, though he still cannot hear the words clearly enough to have a conversation with someone.  Nevertheless the improvements are obvious according to his family members.

But in school Ensar still relies on Mërgim’s help. Mërgim is his cousin and closest friend.

Mërgim says that when they were younger and attended the same kindergarten, it was very difficult for him to understand what Ensar was asking or saying. Then Ensar would point to the person or pick up the object he was talking about, so little by little they began to understand each other. They created their own sign language that only they understand. They go to the same school, same classroom and they are sitting at the same desk. When the teacher explains the topic of the day, simultaneously Mërgim explains to Ensar what the teacher is saying; they do their homework together, watch TV and play until it gets dark.
