Flooding Danube in Romania threatens Dolj county communes

A further 10,000 people from 4 further communes out of the 109 in Dolj County are under threat of evacuation over the next few hours and a state of emergency had been declared by the local authorities.
“Only a part of the roof is left from our house. We have saved blankets and tables, but no food or clothing. We have lost everything.” said Cornelia, a 57- year-old woman from Rast, among the last people evacuated.
World Vision has supplied food consisting of over 300 portions each of canned meat, cream cheeses and pate cans to the affected families.
A number of blankets, hygiene products and children clothing are also being sent to provide relief for evacuated families

Many people have spent the night outside in a field with the furniture, blankets and clothes they managed to save.
"We are continuing to monitor the water level and we have organised combined teams together with the Police, Relief Situation Inspectorate and the Red Scorpions special forces unit in order to promptly intervened” stated General. Maris from the Gendarmerie.
