Strategic Objective: Increase in Children protected from infections and diseases

During 2022 financial year, World Vision International Burundi focused its interventions on environmental disasters and epidemic infectious diseases, particularly in responding to the wounds pandemic in Muramvya province and in responding to the Rift valley fever outbreak. For the wound pandemic, World Vision International Burundi supported 3,881 children with wound treatment

The World Food Programme-funded Home Grown School Feeding project provided school meals in 145 schools in Muyinga Province to ensure continuity of learning of school children. The project reached 124,788 pupils from nursery and primary schools while the returnee project has reached 5,936 HHs with a total of 18,153 people.

The school feeding programme has come as a solution to the many problems caused by the lack of sufficient food for students in schools. It aims at reducing school dropouts, and to improve student performance and retention. The programme is very commendable as a strategy not only to respond to the educational and nutritional needs of the children in the targeted schools, but also because the programmes help parents to go about their errands knowing that their children will have food for the day.

World Vision in Burundi also intervened in refugee camps. In Musasa refugee camp, water infrastructures were rehabilitated and latrines and washrooms built to improve hygiene and sanitation in the camp.

Word Vision also supported in strengthening the water system with solar pumps increasing the quantity of water per refugee from 10m liters to 20 liters.
