What if you can help make a young girl’s dreams come true?

Saru, a young woman from Nepal, knows how important it is to have people believe in them and help them reach their full potential.

Although loving, supportive and hard-working, Saru's parents struggled to provide for their family's needs as daily wage labourers in a carpet factory.

Things began to improve in 2006, when World Vision began working in her community through their child sponsorship programme. As a result, Saru was able to continue her education and her parents received support to start a small business.

“... if World Vision had not come to my community. I probably would have been married by now,” says Saru.

Today, 20-year-old Saru works as a Key Leader at Nari Bikas Sangh, a partner NGO of World Vision in Nepal.

"World Vision has transformed my life... I received training, and now I can teach and lead adolescents in my community, too," says Saru

She trains young people in life skills, teaches them about their rights and helps identify and report any incidences of child abuse, child marriage or other harm occurring with children in her area.

Currently, Saru is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business studies.

I am the only member in my family who has a higher education and all my family members are proud of me. My parents want me to study further because they’re able to support me now. Our Chatpate business is thriving!

Saru’s relationship with her sponsor and World Vision ended in 2019 but the fruits are just beginning to be seen.
