In the district of Mutarara, in Tete province-Mozambique, children are raising their voices against one of the most urgent and persistent threats to their health and development: malnutrition.

LACRO School Meals

The Okulonguesa project, implemented in Namibe in vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities like Nkhondo, is transforming lives. In addition to benefiting the children attending the only school in the locality, which is the central focus of World Vision Angola’s interventions, it has also positively impacted the lives of many mothers.

The growing demand for fresh vegetables to supply daily school meals for early-grade students is sparking renewed interest among small-scale farmers in commercial agriculture, revitalizing local groups and associations. World Vision Mozambique (WV-Moz) through the Partnering for Sustainable Education Outcomes (PARES) project, is providing a platform for farmers to strengthen their organizational skills and leverage the Local and Regional Procurement (LRP) approach. This initiative serves as an additional source of food to sustain the school feeding program.

Over the past five years, more than 22 million meals (22,667,173) have been served to over 93,000 primary school students in the districts of Muecate and Nacarôa, Nampula Province. This initiative aimed to improve school attendance, combat hunger, and prevent malnutrition among children.

This article reports on the launch of the School Meal Program in Menkao, initiated by World Vision DRC on May 13, 2025. It’s a key initiative in the fight against child hunger and malnutrition in the Democratic Republic of Congo, especially in schools. The program aims to provide students with a balanced daily meal to improve their health, focus, and academic performance. Supported by the World Food Programme and other partners, it forms part of a national multisectoral strategy that combines nutrition, education, and community development.

A new borehole at Muiticula Primary now provides clean water to 400+ students, improving health, hygiene, and education through the PARES project.

“Our dream is simple: To have access to clean water, enough food and safe schools” said Ameer 16, from the West Bank. Along with several other Palestinian children, he reminded the participants of the 2025 European Humanitarian Forum (EHF) about how the current conflict has disrupted their education, mental health, and sense of normalcy. But they also spoke of how education programming, when combined with psychosocial support and protection, can turn schools in places of safety, hope, and healing.
