CHWs in Zambia

World Vision at the Community Health Worker Symposium

The 4th International Community Health Worker (CHW) Symposium is taking place online from 12 to 14 November 2025. This year's theme, On the Front Lines: Empowering CHWs to Create Equitable Health Systems in Contexts of Conflict, Migration and Exclusion, underscores the vital role CHWs play in ensuring access to health care for all. The global gathering will provide an opportunity to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and highlight the contribution of CHWs in building resilient and equitable health systems, particularly in communities affected by conflict and displacement.

World Vision has a long-standing commitment to supporting and learning from CHWs. Our staff have participated in various CHW events, including the 3rd CHW Symposium held in Monrovia, Liberia in 2023 and a CHW side event at the World Health Assembly in 2023. This year, World Vision is showcasing its impact through 2 panel presentations, 4 oral presentations, and 7 posters, highlighting innovative CHW programmes that strengthen health systems and improve child and community well-being worldwide.

World Vision’s approach

World Vision supports almost 200,000 CHWs across 43 countries worldwide.

We partner with Ministries of Health to strengthen national health systems by providing technical assistance in CHW workload analysis and facilitating CHW strategy development workshops.

As the global funding crisis and push for service integration place increasing demands on CHWs, World Vision advocates for fair compensation, supportive supervision, and manageable workloads to ensure sustainable, high-quality community health services.
