World Vision Ethiopia Showcases Proven Child-Centred Climate Solutions at the 2nd African Climate Summit in Addis Ababa

(Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, September 8, 2025), As the 2nd African Climate Summit kicks off in Addis Ababa, World Vision Ethiopia (WVE) is proud to highlight its pioneering work in child-centred climate resilience, natural restoration, Solar WASH, and sustainable livelihoods. While the Summit features a vibrant lineup of panels, exhibits, and side events, World Vision Ethiopia's focus remains on translating this dialogue into tangible impact on the ground for the children it serves.
World Vision Ethiopia has led the way in implementing innovative, community-driven climate solutions that directly help children and vulnerable communities. Through our Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) initiatives, we have restored millions of hectares of degraded land, created sustainable livelihoods, and enhanced food security for local families.
We have generated 2.5m USD in carbon credits revenue, which has been distributed to community members. Our emergency response reached 3.3 million children, helping to mitigate the impacts of drought, conflict, and climate-related crises. Our WASH programs have provided 1.6 million people with safe water and sanitation, serving as a crucial buffer against climate shocks.
At ACS2, WVE’s interactive exhibits bring the amazing stories of success to life. Our work has already proven that community-led restoration and innovative financing can produce scalable, sustainable results, empowering children and communities to adapt and thrive amid climate challenges in Ethiopia and around the world.
“Africa cannot afford empty pledges. Every child in Ethiopia deserves a future rooted in resilience, protection, and opportunity.” Says Karmen Till, National Director, World Vision Ethiopia.
Throughout the Summit, World Vision Ethiopia is hosting and participating in key side events and dialogues that bring to the fore the issues that are facing the children of today and tomorrow, while also focusing on scaling up solutions that we already know are working.
A Call to Action
World Vision Ethiopia urges governments, donors, civil society, academia, and the private sector to prioritise urgent, locally-led, child-centred climate action. This includes scaling community-led restoration, expanding access to clean energy, and ensuring climate investments reach vulnerable children. Strengthening coordination, innovative financing, and community engagement, especially through savings groups, cooperatives, and green businesses, is essential.
The solution cannot be to only improve the resilience of tomorrow’s children. We have to fix the problems the world has created today.
