In the presence of Mr. Sengdao Sidalay, from the Provincial Health Department, and Mr. Keo CHANTHALANGSY, Public Engagement Director for World Vision International - Lao PDR (WVI-L), a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on 24th November 2022 for the implementation of the Improving Water and Hygiene for Nutrition (iWASH for Nutrition) in Nong District Savannakhet Province. The MOU signing ceremony was held in the Daosavanh Hotel, Savannakhet Province, under the chair of Mrs. Lingthong Sengtavanh, provincial Vice Governor.

The project aims to support the 9th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025) to prioritise improved access to safe and clean drinking water for vulnerable children and their families, as well as improved water, sanitation, and hygiene practices. Children and their caregivers improved access to regular health and nutrition services. It will also strengthen the partnerships and monitoring mechanisms to ensure its sustainability and inclusiveness for rural development. This directly reflects the National Nutrition Strategy Plan of Action (NNSAP) of the Ministry of Health to create supportive conditions for enhanced household nutrition and reduced waterborne disease incidence in target districts. This intervention is also in alignment with the new strategy recently released by WVI-L, prioritising improved nutrition outcomes for children by working towards universal access to basic sanitation and hygiene facilities among households.

Under this project, World Vision will work closely with local partners from the Ministry of Health to support 14 target villages. It will benefit over 5,990 individuals from the rural communities of Nong District, Savannakhet province. The project will be implemented until December 2024, for a total funding of 303,257 USD provided by World Vision Korea.

With a long-standing presence in Laos, World Vision International deepens its commitment to ensuring a brighter future for the most vulnerable children with the start of this new project in Savannakhet province.
