CRISIS WITHOUT BORDERS: VOICES FROM A FORGOTTEN CRISIS
Tuesday, May 20, 2025

The conflict in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023, has triggered a devastating regional humanitarian crisis, particularly impacting children. Over 8.6 million people have been displaced, and nearly 25 million including 14 million children—are in urgent need of assistance. World Vision’s multi-country emergency assessment, conducted across Sudan, Chad, the Central African Republic, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Uganda, reveals alarming levels of hunger, loss of livelihoods, lack of access to essential services, and rising protection risks, especially for women and children. In Sudan, nearly 90% of households face moderate to severe hunger, with severe hunger at 38.7%, the highest among countries surveyed. Protection concerns are escalating, with half of households reporting signs of psychosocial distress in children and limited access to health, water, and sanitation. Communities are calling for food, clean water, healthcare, education, and livelihood recovery. World Vision urges donors and humanitarian actors to prioritize Sudan in funding and diplomacy, invest in child-focused responses, and scale up cross-border and long-term solutions.
