Violence isn’t the only thing forcing people to flee their country. Climate change severely affects millions of people, like refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and their communities. Women and children, like Iqra and her baby, are typically the most at risk.

In October of last year, the rebel group in the Democratic Republic of Congo opened fire in the community of Rugari, forcing 520,000 people to flee their homes. Today that number is well over 800,000 in just one community. For children in the world's most dangerous places, a safe home is not guaranteed. 

Having a sponsor meant Monika, an 18-year-old from a rural community in Bangladesh, had the knowledge, tools and social support resources to stand up to child marriage. Not only has she avoided becoming a bride herself, but she is helping countless other girls facing a similar fate.

Only one person sleeps in this shelter, a child. Achut is only ten-years-old, but she is living alone in a camp for displaced people in Tonj North, South Sudan.
