Celebrating the Day of the African Child with Coumba Gawlo

Monday, June 27, 2016

On June 18th, World Vision Senegal had the immense pleasure to join forces with Coumba Gawlo to mark and celebrate the Day of the African Child.

Known not only for great music and song, Coumba was recently appointed as a UNODC goodwill Ambassador to support their efforts to combat human trafficking. Moreover, a long-standing artist with huge popularity, Coumba Gawlo keeps the well-being of children close to her heart at all times, going so far as to establish her very own NGO, ‘Lumière pour l’Enfance’ to fight for their protection and rights.

In partnership with Coumba and her NGO, World Vision Senegal sponsored this day last week.

With over a thousand children in one room, The Daniel Sorano Theatre in Dakar was alive with happiness, positivity and purpose. Many personalities gave their time and showcased their talents, all for one great cause cause; protecting the African child and their rights.

Below is the day’s story in pictures.
