Access to Safe Drinking Water Supports Community Growth and Education in Korkoin
In Korkoin, a neighborhood in the Bebalem subprefecture, the completion of the Mini Drinking Water Supply System built by World Vision International in Chad with financial support from World Vision Canada marked a turning point in the community’s history. Much more than just a water infrastructure project, this facility has become a true hub that is gradually transforming the village.
Once faced with difficulties accessing water, residents now have a reliable and accessible source of drinking water. This improvement has encouraged many families to settle in the area, drawn by the opportunity to live in an environment where water is available year-round.
For Dionrou Phillippe, the neighborhood leader, the changes are visible every day: “Since we’ve had this Mini AEP, our neighborhood has been attracting more people. Many families are now choosing to live here because they know they’ll have access to safe drinking water. The population is gradually growing, and the neighborhood is developing. ”
This growth has created new needs, particularly in the area of education. Noting the influx of families and, above all, the presence of a permanent source of drinking water, the promoters of a school project decided to establish a school in the immediate vicinity of the Mini AEP.
“The school chose to locate here because there is water. This is a significant benefit for the children. They’ll be able to drink water when they’re thirsty—especially during heat waves—and enjoy a healthier environment,” explains a parent who lives in the area.
For the neighborhood leader, this decision demonstrates the strategic importance of the project carried out by World Vision. “Seeing a school being built right next to our Mini AEP is proof that water drives development. School officials have realized that children need a reliable water source to learn in good conditions. Thanks to this project by World Vision, our children will be able to quench their thirst easily and continue their education in a supportive environment. ”
Today, the Mini AEP in Korkoin does more than just provide drinking water. It attracts new families, stimulates the village’s development, and creates the conditions necessary for children’s education.
