Enough! Echoing the Dream of Nutrition for Every Child In Mozambique
By Denise Dimande, Communications and Advocacy Officer
Child malnutrition continues to affect millions of children in various parts of the world. According to data released by UNICEF in 2024, one in four children lives in severe food poverty, consuming a maximum of two food groups per day, a situation that affects their growth, development and learning. In Mozambique, the reality is no different: around 37% of children suffer from chronic malnutrition. This is alarming, especially in a country where food is recognised as one of the most basic rights of children. In this context, initiatives such as school meals have emerged as effective strategies to ensure that children have access to at least one nutritious meal a day. More than just a support for learning, it is a concrete measure for child protection.
