In Enqameni Operational Area, a child slowly rises and begins to walk toward a tent.

But this is no ordinary tent. Inside are photographs, faces of different people who have made a simple but powerful decision to be chosen.

Step by step, the child moves closer. In that moment, it is more than just a walk. It is filled with hope, courage, and possibility. A moment that captures the true meaning of the Chosen event.

Recently, a total of 128 children from Enqameni took part in this life changing experience, an event designed to give children the opportunity to choose their sponsors and place dignity and power in their hands.

The event welcomed pastors from churches across the United States of America (U.S.A), alongside World Vision U.S. staff members, creating a shared space of connection, and global community.

For the children, the experience was both exciting and deeply personal.

“I was nervous when I stood up, but also happy,” said one child.

“When I saw the pictures, I chose my sponsor because they were smiling and looked kind. I felt like they would care about me.”

For the sponsors, the experience was deeply moving.

“This has been a life changing experience. Being here, on the ground, witnessing children choose makes me feel truly blessed. It is beyond anything I imagined,” said Pastor Mark.

Latisha, who traveled from the U.S.A along with her husband, also reflected on the moment.

“Being here and seeing children choose their sponsors is something I will never forget. It is powerful to witness their confidence, their joy, and the love in this community. This experience has truly touched my heart,” she said.

For parents, the emotions ran even deeper. As they watched their children take that walk, there was a mix of pride, relief, and gratitude.

“When I saw my son being embraced by the sponsors, I felt a burden lift from my shoulders. I am so grateful for this opportunity,” shared one parent.

Khumbulani Ndlovu, World Vision Integrated Programmes Director, reflected on the significance of the moment.

“We are grateful that sponsors took the time to come to Zimbabwe and witness the spirit of the children, the strength of the community, and the realities many families face. Their presence means a lot.”

More than just an event, Chosen is a powerful reminder that every child deserves to be seen, valued, and given the opportunity to shape their own story.
