When World Vision Zimbabwe opened its Hwedza Area Programme in 2023, resources were still very limited. Yet, thanks to the support received through Gifts-in-Kind (GiK), the programme is already making a meaningful difference in schools and health facilities.

At Garaba Clinic—one of the busiest health centres in the district—GiK support has brought in camping tents and cooler boxes that are transforming the way health services reach people in need.

“Garaba Clinic receives many patients, especially from the nearby informal mining area,” explains Ngoni Kapepa, Cluster Manager for Hwedza.

“With the tents, health staff can now extend services to communities far from the clinic, providing shelter and privacy for patients during outreach visits.”

The cooler boxes are also proving vital. They are now being used to safely store and transport vaccines during mass drug administration and immunization campaigns. This means that mothers and children in remote villages no longer miss out on lifesaving health interventions simply because of distance.

Beyond health, GiK has also allowed World Vision to support schools with much-needed furniture, easing the burden of overcrowded classrooms and creating a better environment for children to learn.

“For us as a new programme with a small budget, GiK is a huge boost,” says Kapepa.

“It helps us leverage our resources and expand our impact. We are grateful for this support—it is making a real difference for communities in Hwedza.”

Through GiK, World Vision is not just filling gaps in resources—it is strengthening the ability of local clinics and schools to serve communities with dignity, hope, and resilience.
