Uwimana Antoinette, a 33-year-old mother of five, fled conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2018 and resettled in Uganda’s Kyaka II settlement. Like many refugees, she initially relied on food aid and cash transfers but struggled to meet her family’s needs. Seeking alternatives, she joined the Ushindi Savings Group, a refugee-led initiative formed in 2019 to promote self-reliance through savings and small loans.

Building Climate‑Adaptive Solutions through Inclusive Market Networks (BASIN) is a four‑year regional initiative (2025–2029) funded by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Mekong–Australia Partnership. Implemented by a World Vision–led consortium, the project supports smallholder farmers in Cambodia’s Kratie Province to adapt to climate change through inclusive and climate‑smart agri‑food systems. Focusing on cashew and vegetable value chains, BASIN aims to improve household incomes, strengthen women’s and marginalized groups’ participation and leadership, and generate evidence to inform regional learning and policy dialogue across the Mekong sub‑region.

This article tells the story of how access to clean water transformed life in Nyemba after devastating floods destroyed homes, schools, and basic infrastructure. Through the voice of 10-year-old Moke, it captures both the trauma of loss and the hope that followed. A newly constructed water point now serves more than 1,000 households, improving health conditions in a region affected by insecurity and cholera outbreaks. Supported by the Nexus Accelerator Fund project, the response combines sustainable water access with economic empowerment through savings and credit groups that strengthen family resilience.
