Creating spaces for children’s growth
Children in Sarasawoti Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) centre in Rupandehi district, the western region of Nepal enjoy as they sing and play together.
Kabita Chaudary, a parent, shares, “My daughter went to school after attending this ECED and is doing very well in school. I feel she is smarter and now I have my son here as I know it will help in his overall growth, both mental and physical.”
Radha Tharu, ECED facilitator says, “Children just don’t learn how to read and write, but also importantly learn about hygiene and good habits. They learn to wash hands and stay clean which results in better health conditions.”
The ECED is now run by the community, which was previously supported by World Vision with the building construction, providing nutritious food and learning materials for children, and the salaries of the facilitators for couple of years.
Training sessions on ECED management, account keeping, child care, good nutrition were also provided.
World Vision has handed over 24 such ECED to communities and is supporting 15 school based ECED centres at present.
