Mothers learn to raise healthy children
Bimala Pariyar, 28, is a mother of four children who has been working as a Positive Deviance (PD) Hearth volunteer mother for more than two years now in Jumla.
She has been trained to conduct classes on good nutrition, health and hygiene for young children in the community with the support of World Vision. Since she received PD Hearth training, she has been conducting early morning classes for mothers with malnourished children in her community. Her classes focus on ways to prepare nutritious food with locally available resources, keeping children healthy and tracking their development. Her classes run for 14 days at a stretch and are conducted every month where a maximum of 12 mothers participating with their young children.
She shares, “Women in Jumla focus more on their field work and less on children. They are not aware of the importance of nutritious food and good hygiene. After taking the classes, many mothers are now knowledgeable and have applied their learnings at home.”
