Keeping Rajina in School

Rajina, 9, is a World Vision sponsored child from Kaski. Rajina’s family relies on fishing for their income; however it is not enough to support the family. Rajina’s mother, works as a labourer and sometimes helps her husband in fishing when she’s free from house chores.

Rajina is studying in grade three. She is one of the brightest students in her class. Like her elder sisters, Rajina’s mother wanted her to quit school because of the financial difficulties at home. World Vision’s sponsorship programme enables Rajina to continue her study.

Rajina says, “I became to be a sponsored child when I was four years old, after some World Vision staff visited my house. I was very happy to be sponsored. I have received my school uniform and some school materials after that. For my family and my community, we have received various new schools, an early childhood care and development centre, child clubs, our empty schools have received materials and a library and many more.”

Regular health camps and awareness programmes organised by World Vision’s Kaski Area Development Programme have markedly improved the health of many children, like Rajina. Not surprisingly, this has also improved their grades at schools too.

Rajina concludes, “If I didn’t have World Vision’s support, I think I would have probably ended up getting married at an early age like my elder sisters. Thank you World Vision sponsors for the supports you have provided to me, my family and the community.”
