Millet - Niger's staple diet

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

This millet has been harvested and stacked in bundles. Millet forms the staple diet in Niger and families normally eat it three times a day, often as soup made with water or milk and sometimes spices or sugar. The importance of a good millet harvest in Niger cannot be overstated as most families survive from subsistence farming. Therefore a poor millet harvest can have devastating effects on the country’s population.
