Vulnerable in Niger

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

An estimated 9 million people in Niger, have been identified as vulnerable to food shortages and malnutrition, according to a national survey. The government is working with humanitarian partners, including World Vision, to deal with this on-going crisis, caused by insufficient rain fall, insects, and some flooding, resulting in very poor production levels and cereal and fodder shortages. Migrant workers forced to return due to regional instabilities are adding pressure to the situation.
