Our first situation report on the eastern Afghanistan earthquake that struck on 1 September 2025 explains how World Vision has been responding to meet the urgent needs of affected families.

The powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake first struck on 1 September 2025 with powerful aftershocks occurring in the following days, killing at least 1,992 people and causing widespread destruction. In some of the worst-affected villages, whole hamlets have been destroyed, leaving no homes inhabitable.

People from the worst-affected communities have been reached with shelter, non-food items, and food assistance. However, there has been significant displacement to camps in the main Kunar valley, and there is grave concern about potential increases in disease and hardship with the onset of winter.
