Technology is the driving force of change, impacting every aspect of our lives, from the way we communicate, learn, and work, to how we shape our future. In this reality, which evolves daily and brings with it fresh challenges and opportunities, digital skills are no longer merely an advantage; they are a necessity.

“For young people, these skills represent not only an opportunity for sustainable employment, but also a tool to protect themselves in the online space and to build a safer future,” says Klesardi from Lezhë.

Betiljana and Klesardi took part with dozens of other students in the Digital Skills and Soft Skills courses held this summer at the Kolin Gjoka Vocational Secondary School in Lezhë, supported by the project: Boosting Decent Employment for Youth and the Unemployed People in the Cross-border Area of Montenegro and Albania.

This training is part of a wider cross-border initiative aimed at empowering and preparing young people and the unemployed for the labour market. For these two students pursuing vocational education, this one-month experience was more than just a course; it was a significant step towards a secure future.

They were among 20 young people certified by the Albanian ICT Academy, a well-regarded institution known for the quality of its technology training. These certificates, accredited by the Albanian government, provide tangible value in the job market.

“During this course, we learned and developed various projects related to data protection and online safety. This intensive course helped me deepen my skills in the field of technology. Technological proficiency is essential, not only to secure successful employment, but also to protect oneself in the digital world. I believe I will continue to specialise in this field to ensure a secure future for myself,” says Klesardi, a member of the cyber security and digital skills group.

Betiljana is passionate about programming and sees this as a step towards her dreams.

“In the digital skills course, I learned how to create a web application using Python. I enjoy progressing in this field, not only because it’s my passion, but also because it’s a great opportunity for a secure career.”

Internships that turn learning into experience

After receiving the training and certifications. Klesardi, Betiljana and 13 other students undertook month-long professional internships with ICT sector companies in Tirana.

The young people worked on concrete projects, including building websites for financial systems and mobile applications, gaining hands-on experience in a professional environment and taking their first steps towards a career in technology.

Partnerships that create opportunities

Funded by the European Union, the project is implemented by World Vision Albania, the Employment Agency in Montenegro, and the National Employment and Skills Agency in Albania. It is carried out in the municipalities of Lezhë, Kurbin, and Mirditë in Albania, as well as in Podgorica, Tuzi, Ulcinj, and Plav in Montenegro. This cross-border project supports 30 vocational school students, 140 unemployed young people, and 40 artisan men and women involved in local economies.

“Anything that benefits students and young people is a priority for us,” says Bardh Dedgjonaj, Director of the Kolin Gjoka Vocational Secondary School, highlighting the importance of such partnerships in empowering youth.

Dedgjonaj is enthusiastic that thanks to this project, dozens of more students will benefit. The school’s modern infrastructure is being expanded with a new space, equipped with the latest technology, made possible by the project. The CareerPro Hub, a space fitted with cutting-edge technology, will serve as a centre for career guidance and professional development for young people.

Klesardi and Betiljana are proof that when young people receive the right support, they don’t just learn, they thrive. They are part of a generation that doesn't fear challenges, because they have the tools to face them. This generation builds with knowledge, courage, and hope.
