Learners at Mwanga Primary School say participating in quiz competitions has significantly improved their academic performance and boosted their confidence in the classroom.

Gracious,13, one of the learners actively involved in the competitions, credits the initiative for helping him excel in subjects he previously struggled with.

"Before joining the quiz club, I was not performing well in subjects such as Social Studies and Science. Through the preparations and practice sessions, my understanding has greatly improved and my results are much better now," says Gracious.

Another learner, Shamila who is in Standard 5 shared a similar experience. She says the quiz club has transformed her from a shy learner into a confident public speaker.

"I used to struggle to answer questions in class because I lacked confidence. Since joining the quiz club, I have become more confident and can now speak in front of others," says Shamila.

Shamila  who dreams of becoming a soldier after completing her education, appealed to World Vision to continue supporting the initiative so that more children can benefit from it.

"I encourage World Vision to continue implementing this project because it is helping many learners improve their knowledge and confidence," says Shamila.

Mwanga Primary School teacher Jameson Bello said the school places great importance on quiz competitions and encourages learners to prepare thoroughly before participating.

"We take quiz competitions seriously. Our commitment and preparation recently paid off when we emerged victorious after competing against several schools," says Bello.

According to Bello, the school's improved performance has also enhanced its reputation within the community.

"We have seen an increase in learner enrolment and more of our pupils are being selected to national secondary schools because of their improved academic performance," says Bello.

World Vision is implementing literacy-focused interventions in schools under the Thundu Area Programme to promote child participation in educational activities. As part of the initiative, the organisation supports inter-school quiz competitions aimed at improving reading skills, spelling, critical thinking, and general knowledge among learners.

The programme continues to play a vital role in nurturing academic excellence, building confidence and inspiring learners to achieve their educational goals
