Evelyn,16, is sure that she will make it to a boarding national Secondary School after she sit for 2026 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations.  She says she is determined because of her improved access to quality education at her school which is supported by World Vision.

“Learning is easy and enjoyable like never before. My academic performance is getting better each month,” says Evelyn.

Apart from improved access to water, she and other 1423 learners at her school are now able to access certified learning books which she even uses at home.

Evelyn, who wants to become a nurse, says she is motivated to do school work any free time she gets including at home.

“I have no excuse to fail. My teacher has been sharing about good experiences at national secondary schools in cities and I want to go there. I am passing my tests excellently and this trend will continue with the unwavering support from education authorities “says Evelyn.

All the 12 teachers at Matundu Primary School have teaching materials like books which have enabled them  to deliver lessons to leaners effectively.

The furnishing of the school with teaching and learning materials is courtesy of community’s Citizen Voice and Action’s (CVA) , a social accountability model championed by World Vision which demanded improved service delivery from Nsanje District council  to improve education standards at Evelyn’s school.

Led by the chairperson, Alex Mkunga, the CVA has been holding interface meetings with the council officials to ensure learners and teachers have adequate school materials, enough teachers to address the abnormal teacher to pupil ratio, and add classroom among others.

Mkunga says World Vision equipped them with knowledge about their rights and government policies on service delivery especially those from education sector.

The CVA’s efforts are bearing fruits that motivate leaners like Evelyn and other learners to work hard and enjoy their right to education. The school has also been allocated two new teachers come next school term.

Head Teacher Elvyn’s school Samson Ng’ando says their work is becoming easier and effective than before courtesy of the developments.

“It was hard to teach learners without necessary materials as we ended up compromising. Our needs are being addressed and pressure is going down with the addition of new teachers,” says Samson.

As Evelyn looks forward to sitting for the 2026 PSLCE examinations, Mkunga and other parents in the area are pleased as their children are well equipped to excel with education.
