World Vision's Global Lead for Disaster Management Justin Byworth visited the Protection of Civilians (PoC) site in Juba, South Sudan last week. He was able to witness the food distribution and has talked to some of the people waiting for their turn.

World Vision, in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), provides food assistance to over 32,000 people in the PoC site. Combined with cash assistance, the partnership assists over one million people all over the country.

Food need in South Sudan is acutely urgent as over 6.2 million people, or half of its population, is severely food insecure. More than a million children under five years old are in need of nutrition assistance. Byworth said the humanitarian work is doing well but more needs to be done to address the needs of the people, especially the children, in the country.
