Living an active life full of meaning and purpose

This highlights the story of a 13 year old teenager named Muluka Jemal, and the challenges that children with disabilities face as well as how World Vision is supporting them. Muluka briefly shares her experience living with disability as a child born with both of her legs physically handicapped and never able to walk. She was forced to walk by crawling on her hands and knees ever since her birth.

Muluka has never been to school or grown up playing with her peers like many other children with disabilities and are excluded from education and essential services and activities across the country. "I was very much rejected when I tried to play with children in my neighborhood. No one dared to encourage me to play with his/her children taking my disability as if it is a communicable disease,” she sadly recalls.

So, Muluka had been forced to remain at home until her parents knew about the rehabilitation program for people with disability supported by world vision, Habro ADP in collaboration with Cheshire Service Ethiopia outreach program team. Muluka got treated for about 9 months at Black Lion Hospital after which she’s stared walking with the help of walking aid. “I could not think that I would be able to walk but it has now happened,” said Muluka explaining about the moment that changed the meaning of life. She could not wait to see her first day in school soon hopping to lead an entirely new way of living; an active life full of meaning and purpose. Muluka dreams about becoming a doctor to help People Living With Disability.

World Vision Habro ADP collaborating with Cheshire Service Ethiopia supported 105 male and 63 female a total of 168 PLWD in the surrounding area of Habro district.
