The Baseline Report for the BMZ Grow ENRICH Project analyses maternal and child health in East Africa, highlighting key findings and recommendations for improvement.

In many communities across Zambia, expectant mothers face an uphill battle in accessing the essential nutrients needed for a healthy pregnancy. Traditional antenatal care has long relied on iron and folic acid (IFA) supplements, but coverage gaps, sociocultural barriers, and adherence challenges have limited their effectiveness. This has left many pregnant and postpartum women vulnerable to micronutrient deficiencies, which can lead to complications such as anemia, low birth weight, and even maternal mortality.

Over the past five years, more than 22 million meals (22,667,173) have been served to over 93,000 primary school students in the districts of Muecate and Nacarôa, Nampula Province. This initiative aimed to improve school attendance, combat hunger, and prevent malnutrition among children.

Early intervention and community care were crucial in saving young Délcio from severe malnutrition after a bout of malaria in northern Mozambique. A timely referral from a community volunteer to a World Vision-supported health committee connected his mother with vital nutrition education. Empowered with new knowledge, she transformed his diet, leading to his full recovery.

Restrictions on movements have seriously affecting access to emergency health care services. To support communities, World Vision is supporting 20 health centers with material and training so they can provide emergency health cares to communities at the village level. In the village of El Karmel, this project is bringing hope among mothers and children.

Through a project, World Vision is supporting the creation of safe play areas in villages affected by the current crisis, allowing children to play, hope and heal.

The Grow ENRICH project aims to improve maternal and child health and nutrition in Kenya, Somalia, and Tanzania, benefiting many individuals over four years.

On World Health Day, on the seventh of April, we celebrate the significant advancements in maternal and child health in Angola. The World Vision Angola, through the Mais e Melhor Saúde project, has been directly contributing to the reduction of neonatal and child mortality, with notable impact in the municipalities of Cazenga, Cacuaco, and Talatona.
