Citizen Voice and Action (CVA) is a transformative approach that empowers communities to actively participate in their development, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability. Through the CVA model, community members identify their pressing issues, engage with duty bearers such as government officials and service providers, and work collaboratively to find sustainable solutions. This process ensures that development efforts are community-driven, lasting, and truly responsive to local needs.

Digital Empowerment

Bunda Bunda Health Post is overseen by Agnes Mweemba, a dedicated 30-year-old nurse with extensive experience at the facility, having started her service there in April 2017. Over the years, she has witnessed significant changes that have improved the quality of care and the working environment.

Chiyumbabeenzu Health Post is staffed by one nurse, one psychosocial support officer, and two community health assistants. In Zambia’s Southern Province, they serve a community of over 3,000 residents, attending to up to 50 patients daily. For nearly a decade, the clinic operated without mechanised water. The handpump, which supplied water before World Vision intervened, was often broken, creating significant challenges, especially for expecting mothers.

Three out of four families reported better outcomes for their children, particularly in nutrition, health, and education, with over half of Syrian refugees crediting CVA for enabling continued schooling.

Dr Kyi reflects on how Myanmar’s fight against hunger, amid earthquakes, conflict, and economic crisis seems daunting—but not impossible. Hope can still grow in the midst of crisis. A hunger-free world is possible for the children in Myanmar but that will require a united commitment to peace and resilience, and global solidarity.
