WORLD VISION IN CAMBODIA: A JOURNEY OF GRATITUDE, RESILIENCE, AND HOPE
Sunday, May 31, 2026

For 56 years, World Vision International in Cambodia has walked alongside the Cambodian people through seasons of crisis, recovery, and transformation—standing as a trusted partner in improving the lives of vulnerable children and communities.

The journey began in the 1970s during a time of conflict and uncertainty, when World Vision first responded with humanitarian assistance to families facing displacement and urgent needs. Even before the height of the crisis, the organization had already contributed to strengthening Cambodia’s health system through support to pediatric care. Operations were later halted during the Khmer Rouge regime, but World Vision returned soon after—among the first international organizations to help rebuild a shattered nation. Despite immense loss, its renewed efforts focused on lifesaving support, including food distribution, healthcare, shelter, and community reconstruction.

Through the 1980s and 1990s, World Vision played a critical role in restoring dignity and stability, responding to extreme child mortality and widespread poverty. As Cambodia began to recover, the organization transitioned from emergency relief to long-term development, expanding programmes in health, nutrition, education, livelihoods, mine clearance, and HIV and AIDS prevention—helping communities move from survival to sustainability.

In the decades that followed, World Vision strengthened its community-based approach through child sponsorship and integrated development programmes. By working closely with local communities, government partners, and civil society, it promoted holistic, child-centered development—ensuring access to education, clean water, protection, and economic opportunities for families.

In recent years, the organization has aligned its work with national priorities and global development goals, reaching the most vulnerable and marginalized children through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable programmes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, World Vision demonstrated agility and commitment by supporting over one million people, helping communities stay safe, informed, and resilient.

Today, with over USD 650 million invested in Cambodia, World Vision’s impact reflects decades of partnership, innovation, and dedication to lasting change. As it looks toward the future, the organization continues to strengthen collaborations across sectors and advance a bold vision—to reach millions more children and ensure they can grow up safe, healthy, and empowered.

This history wall is a tribute to that journey—a celebration of resilience, a reflection of shared achievements, and a renewed commitment to ensuring life in all its fullness for every child.
