The Baseline Report for the BMZ Grow ENRICH Project provides a comprehensive analysis of maternal and child health and nutrition in East Africa, specifically focusing on Marakwet East, Elgeyo Marakwet County, Kenya. This report aims to establish a benchmark for the project's outcome and output indicators, facilitating the development of effective implementation plans. Utilising a mixed-methods approach, the study involved quantitative surveys of 481 households and qualitative data from focus group discussions and key informant interviews. Key findings indicate a pressing need for improved funding for health and nutrition services, with only 3.2% of children under five experiencing wasting and 32.9% facing stunting. The report highlights significant barriers to accessing gender-sensitive health services and underscores the importance of community engagement in addressing malnutrition and promoting health rights. Recommendations include enhancing advocacy for increased budget allocations, establishing youth-friendly health services, and promoting education on nutrition practices to improve overall health outcomes in the region.
