It hasn’t been the best of times. Where she remembers an abundance of food and water for her children and livestock, now it’s a scarcity that her children and livestock have to contend with.

For Addar Hussein, life has not been easy since the drought began. A mother of four children, two of her children aged two years and 11 months have been admitted at World Vision’s Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) as severely malnourished. After one month, they showed some improvement and are continuing with the treatment.

Through World Vision, she was a beneficiary of the unconditional cash transfer, funded by Irish Aid. With the money, she was able to buy basic necessities for her children like food and clothes.

However with the drought, water also becomes an issue and water vendors have increased their prices.

“I used to buy water at two USD per jerican, but now I buy it at four USD”

The drought situation also worries her, as getting food is becoming harder and harder to obtain.

“The drought has become worse, if we don’t get rains, then the situation will deteriorate. And this worries me as my children will suffer.”

Through the emergency response, World Vision hopes to reach approximately, 64,000 people including children, through WASH, livelihoods, nutrition for children under five, pregnant and lactating women as well as strengthen the already running programs.
