In daily life, everyone shoulders the responsibility to provide children with protection from potential dangers and negative phenomena, which could undermine their well-being.

All participants rallied around this idea in the activity organized during the weekend in the Palace of Culture in Laç in October - a month set aside to raise awareness about trafficking of human beings. The month also is called Literary October, which offered the opportunity to bring the two together in a community event.

The event was attended by young members of “IMPACT” group and partners from the Library of the City, Child Cultural Center, Psycho-Social Service, Child Protection Unit, Kurbin Police Station (specialists of crimes against children and domestic violence) Local NGO-s, parents, citizens and local writers.

Participants held a conversation with writer Viktor Canosinaj, who addresses trafficking of human beings in some of his books, aiming to raise awareness in the society against trafficking.

“The combination of trafficking of human beings and literature was something very impressive. This activity brought to our attention that these events do not take place solely in books,” says Milagro, a 17-years-old from Kurbin.

Children from “Gjin Pjetri” school performed a play from one of Canosinaj’s book, reminding participants how prevention and management of such trafficking of human beings falls on each person.

The participants received valid information from the specialists of the Child Protection Unit and the Kurbin Police Station about protecting children from violence and preventing them from falling into human trafficking.

“It was a valid investment for the children, because trafficking risk of human beings is becoming more and more sophisticated, penetrating virtual life and social media,” says Florinda, Specialist of Crimes for the Protection of Infants from Domestic violence. “We need to persist even more to have parents participate constantly in the protection of children.”

World Vision Albania supported a series of dialogue initiatives and activities, such as: awareness raising campaigns in schools in collaboration with the Psycho-social Service of Kurbin. They held focus groups and book groups to offer opportunities for discussion on the topic of trafficking.

Another activity included a marathon with the theme “I am not for sale” in collaboration with “IMPACT” group and student government of “Arif Halil Sulaj” High School in Mamurras.

Opportunities like this educate children, their parents, and the community on the prevalence of human trafficking, but also provide them tools to ensure the safety of children.
