Hospital boat protects isolated communities along the Amazon river from COVID-19

The riverside communities of the Amazon region in Brazil receive medical care, food packages and hygiene information materials, to prevent COVID-19, thanks to the hospital ship, Solidarity, operated by World Vision Brazil in collaboration with the Presbyterian Church of Manaus. ⠀

The ship's crew will serve more than 500 families from 12 communities along the Solimões River. The region is one of the most vulnerable in the country, which, according to the Health Ministry, has nearly 2.5 million confirmed cases and 88,539 deaths caused by COVID-19 as of July 28.

In the state of Amazonas alone, official data points to more than 99,000 confirmed cases and more than 3,000 deaths.
